My role in society

Do you feel that you were born with a predetermined role in society?

Yeah, course, Delta service grade, a cut above labour, but only just. You've got your basic Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta grades in Federation society and even if you claw your way out by hard work [shudder] or being bright (almost as dangerous--playing dumb's an improvement on being picked on by mean gangs of kids because you were stupid enough to come top in class or say a long word before thinking) you're really stuck with your original grade all your life. Mind you, beats being a bond slave. They're not even citizens.

If so, how do you feel about it?

I don't mind really. I mean, I never bought into it. I went into crime as a profession, nice hours and pay and you're your own boss, and then I became a rebel (not by choice, but I got to see a lot of the galaxy, most of which I wish I hadn't seen). Even then, they expected a Delta to make the drinks and pass 'em round. And clean the bloody glycolene tanks out. But you know, I've never thought of myself as one. Just me, a person in my own right, and anyway I prefer to define myself as a thief. And in that field I'm an aristocrat.
